Marathon Preparation

Thursday June 25th

Well it’s all happening. They talked about it for so long… the marathon.

After the gang leaves it is going to be boring and lonely. The camp is now full of guys, setting up tents and moving around. This morning I stepped out of my tent, with huge bed head (and my hair is already generally huge so you can only imagine), in my grey sweats, and long-sleeved Rolling tones Tee. Less than 10 feet away were about 6 men

Yesterday we were in a row, like a conveyer belt stuffing envelopes for registration, and today filling goody bags for runners after completing the track. When I returned from the office the village was actually a village! There were hundreds of people. In uniforms, like cops and military and also more women than I have seen in a long time, although the men still outnumber us by a long shot. Milling around, talking, security guys swinging their batons, workers rushing back and forth. M looked super stressed. His partner on the other hand was yelling and swearing and shouting at everyone, but since he’s always like that it wasn’t scary, in fact he was still making a few jokes, so I guess it’s times like these when you realize someone like him is the boss for a reason.

Tomorrow we will be in registration all day and I hear it’s a complete bore until suddenly everyone arrives all at once and then we will be running around until the end. Sounds like waitressing.

I waited around for dinner and tagged along to the Maredade camp (the VIP camp) where the family was eating. We brought this cute little girl names Sky who was a family friend. She was so quiet and good and sweet, but she was cold and tired, so I gave her my sweater. M’s girlfriend, and parentswere there, who are all super duper cool. Yes, I said super duper.

Anyway things are moving really fast. I can’t believe I’ve already been here almost a month. I miss my Rudo a lot, but I find that the Skype really helps. We chat at least once or twice a week, whereas when I was in Cuba we couldn’t even talk and it was the absolute worst.

Anyway I am going to hit the sack. Apparently it’s going to be a long night tomorrow once all the guests actually arrive!

Registration: Apparently a woman's job:
